I am writing to inform you of the upcoming 2025 Spring Qualification Examinations.
*Individual notification emails have already been sent to students eligible for the comprehensive exam. However, to ensure that no eligible students have been missed, we are posting the comprehensive exam guidelines publicly.
Comprehensive Exam
(1) Eligibility
To be eligible to take the comprehensive exam this semester, you must have met the following requirements.
Should you fail to earn enough credits at the end of this semester, your application for the comprehensive exam may be withdrawn.
Master's Degree | 1. Completed three or more semesters * two or more semesters for students enrolled in Bachelor-Master's accelerated program 2. Have earned or expected to earn at least 21 credits (including 2 required courses) 3. Passed or must be able to pass the foreign language exam |
Doctorate Degree | 1. Completed four or more semesters 2. Have earned or expected to earn at least 21 credits (including 2 required courses) 3. Passed or must be able to pass the foreign language exam |
Integrated Master's and Doctoral Program | 1. Completed five or more semesters 2. Have earned or expected to earn at least 21 credits (including 2 required courses) 3. Passed or must be able to pass the foreign language exam |
(2) Timeline
- Announcement period: 25. 6. 4. (Wed) ~ 25. 6. 8. (Sun)
- Application period: 25. 6. 4. (Wed) ~ 25. 6. 16. (Mon)
- Date of the Exam: July 3th, 2025 (Thu)
- Time:
1st Period (14:00 - 14:50) - Required Course
2nd Period (15:00 - 15:50) - Elective Course
- Exam Subject
Students must choose one subject from the Required course and one from the Electives.
Foreign Language Exam
1. Relevant Regulations: Art.14 of the Regulations of our Department.
A) TOEFL 533, IBT 72, TEPS 387, IELTS 6.0, TOEIC 785 or higher (the validity period of the score is within 2 years from the date of submission)
B) Those who meet the following conditions may be exempted from the foreign language exam
(a) Students who graduated from middle and secondary school or earned their bachelor's degree or higher from a native English-speaking country/ a country that uses English as an official language/ or an educational institution that provides its full curriculum in English. These students must submit official evidence(Degree certificate or Official letter of the bachelor's) to this e-mail(uicinv@yonsei.ac.kr)
(b) Students who have completed an alternative course offered by the Yonsei University Foreign Language Institute are exempted from a graduate school foreign language qualification exam in English. These students must submit "the certificate of completion(이수증명서)"
